bindro vs Peek for dive shops and certification

bindro vs Peek for dive shops and certification: the short answer
Peek sells reach: its operator software comes with a consumer marketplace and a distribution network behind it, which suits high-volume discover-and-book activities. A certification course is not that product. bindro fits the centre whose enrolment has a medical gate in front of it and whose payouts should wait until the course has been taught. Choose on whether you need demand or control.
Where is Peek stronger?
Peek’s distribution is the thing bindro genuinely does not have. Being listed where holidaymakers browse, plus resellers and concierge channels, fills discover-shop dive trips in a way that no amount of good booking software does on its own, and their operator tooling for high-volume walk-up activities is mature. If most of your revenue is a tourist deciding this morning to dive this afternoon, that reach is worth more than anything on our side of this table.
Where does bindro fit instead?
bindro fits the enrolment half of a dive centre: certification courses booked weeks ahead by divers who have to clear a medical questionnaire, sign a waiver and upload an RSTC statement first, often paying a deposit and instalments on a four-figure course. That booking wants a review step, per-diver health data handled as health data, and money that arrives after the course is taught — not a marketplace listing.
How do they compare line by line?
| For a dive centre | bindro | Peek |
|---|---|---|
| Where the booking comes from | Your own page, your links, an embeddable widget on your site. bindro brings you no demand and does not claim to. | A consumer marketplace and distribution partners alongside the operator software — demand generation is central to what they sell. |
| The medical gate | Questionnaire, RSTC statement upload and waiver signature are part of the booking; application review holds every booking for a human before any payment intent exists. | Waivers and forms are part of activity booking generally; check their current documentation for whether payment can be withheld pending your review. |
| Health data handling | Medical answers are classed as health data by the platform: excluded from analytics exports and from every AI feature, role-restricted, and anonymised twelve months after the diver’s last session. | Ask how medical answers are stored, who can see them, how long they are kept and whether they feed any analytics or AI feature. |
| Payouts | Two days after the course has been delivered, with a reserve held against cancellations. A payout is "paid" only against a real transfer reference. | Check their current payout schedule and any reserve or rolling hold, which for marketplace-sourced bookings is often set by the channel. |
| Multi-day certification courses | Modelled as a session series with per-day capacity; instalments and invoicing exist for four-figure course fees. | Built primarily around short activities and tours; check how a four-day course with the same divers each day is represented. |
| Cost | 2.5% plus $0.99 per paid place, charged the same whatever the booking came from, with no monthly fee. | Historically a per-booking cost with a marketplace commission on bookings they source — check their current pricing, because the two rates differ. |
What are we not certain about?
Everything on our side of the table is something the platform declares and the gates check. Everything on theirs is either publicly uncontroversial or listed here.
- We have not run Peek and are not quoting their rates. Check their current pricing, especially the difference between a booking you brought and one the marketplace brought you.
- If discovery is your problem, this comparison points at them. Better forms do not fill a boat that nobody knows about, and a centre can perfectly well use a marketplace for trips and bindro for courses.
- Our health-data handling is a property of the platform rather than a setting, so it is not something a centre can misconfigure — the analytics exports and every AI feature drop those answers with no override, and the only spreadsheet that carries them is your own divers CSV, behind a fresh verification.

What does bindro NOT do for a dive centre?
Published rather than discovered later. A capability this vertical does not declare is refused by the engine, not quietly missing.
- No PADI, SSI, RAID or NAUI integration — bindro issues no certification, no eLearning code and no digital card, and transmits nothing to any agency.
- No assessment of a medical answer: bindro decides only whether a physician’s countersignature is required, never whether a diver is fit to dive, and the clearance queue names the declaration rather than the condition. Judging the countersigned statement, and the sign-off that lifts the door refusal, are the centre’s.
- No club or buddy roster. Several places go on one order and the booker answers for each diver, but there is no invitation link that lets a buddy fill in their own medical form.
- No club, school or group rate — the checkout cannot price a place differently because several were bought together.
- No rescheduling a diver onto another course date. A blown-out dive is refunded and rebooked; bindro cannot move a place from one session to another.
- No photo or video delivery to divers after the course.
- No live roster at sea. The door works with the network off, but the copy your crew carries is as fresh as its last sync: a place sold ashore after you cast off is not on it, and it catches up when you are back in coverage.
- No sales tax added at checkout and no tax report — the price a diver sees is the price that is charged.
- No waitlist on a full course. A full course says "Course full" and takes no names.
- No automatic collection of the balance of a plan. You publish the deposit, the number of charges and the interval on the ticket type and the deposit is taken at checkout; bindro never charges the stored card for the rest of it, because it does not bill a card with nobody present. Collect the balance the way you collect anything else.
- No handing a place to another diver. A diver who cannot come is refunded, and the place does not return to sale by itself — raise the session’s capacity by one to resell it.
- A diver’s medical answers are anonymised twelve months after their last course, well inside the seven years the signed waiver record is kept. Keep your own copy if your insurer wants the questionnaire itself years later.
- No dive log, no equipment servicing history, no air-fill or cylinder testing records, no retail till and no rental asset tracking — bindro sells the place, it does not run the shop.
