bindro vs DiveShop360 for dive shops and certification: the short answer
DiveShop360 is a dive shop management system: retail point of sale, rental assets, service records and courses in one place. bindro is only the booking and payment layer, and it is stronger at one thing — gating a course on the medical form, with application review that takes no payment until a human has read the statement. If you need one system to run the whole shop, that is them.
Where is DiveShop360 stronger?
DiveShop360 is built for dive retailers rather than for events, and a centre whose day is retail sales, rental gear going in and out, cylinder testing and service history is being asked to run all of that somewhere. bindro does none of it and has no plan to: there is no till, no stock file for the shop floor, no rental asset register and no servicing history. A single system that already knows your customers from the counter is a real advantage, and switching only the course bookings away from it means keeping two customer records in step.
Where does bindro fit instead?
bindro fits the centre whose bottleneck is enrolment rather than retail: courses and trips that must not be paid for until the medical form has been read, deposits collected months ahead, kit rental sized and stock-counted at the point of booking, and money that is never released before the course has actually been delivered. Many centres run it alongside whatever manages the shop floor, because the booking page is the part customers see and the till is not.
How do they compare line by line?
| For a dive centre | bindro | DiveShop360 |
|---|---|---|
| What the product is | A booking and payment platform configured for dive courses. No till, no retail stock, no rental asset register, no service history. | A dive shop management system covering retail, rentals, servicing, customers and course bookings in one product. |
| Medical form before payment | The questionnaire, the RSTC statement upload and the waiver signature are part of the booking. With application review on, no payment intent exists until a person approves. | Course bookings and customer records are handled in the same system as the shop; check how their workflow sequences medical paperwork against payment. |
| Who decides on a positive medical answer | A human at the centre, always: bindro never assesses fitness to dive. What it does automatically is require a physician’s countersignature and refuse that diver at check-in until the centre signs it off. | Ask them directly what their software does with a positive answer, and treat any answer that sounds automatic with the same suspicion you would treat ours. |
| Rental kit at the point of booking | Sold as an add-on with a variant and its own stock per size, in the same basket, the same payment and the same fee as the place. | Rental is a core part of a shop management system and is tracked as real equipment rather than as stock counters — likely stronger, and worth a demo. |
| Money out | Released two days after the course has been delivered, never before, with a reserve held against cancellations. Marked paid only against a real transfer. | Payments are typically taken through a processor you connect, so payout timing is your processor’s rather than theirs. |
| Certification | None. No agency integration, no eLearning codes, no card issuance. bindro can print its own attendance certificate and nothing more. | Marketed to PADI and SSI centres; check with them exactly which agency workflows are integrated and which are still done in the agency’s own system. |
| Cost | 2.5% plus $0.99 per paid place, no monthly fee, free courses cost nothing. | Subscription software for dive retailers — check their current pricing, including what a second location or a till licence adds. |
What are we not certain about?
Everything on our side of the table is something the platform declares and the gates check. Everything on theirs is either publicly uncontroversial or listed here.
- We have not run DiveShop360. Everything in their column is either what they publish about themselves or a pointer to ask them — check their current pricing and feature list before you decide anything on this page.
- The comparison is not like for like. They sell a system for running a dive shop; we sell the booking layer for courses and trips. A centre that needs the till is not really choosing between us.
- If your medical workflow today is a paper form at the shop and it works, the gap this page describes may not be worth a migration.

What does bindro NOT do for a dive centre?
Published rather than discovered later. A capability this vertical does not declare is refused by the engine, not quietly missing.
- No PADI, SSI, RAID or NAUI integration — bindro issues no certification, no eLearning code and no digital card, and transmits nothing to any agency.
- No assessment of a medical answer: bindro decides only whether a physician’s countersignature is required, never whether a diver is fit to dive, and the clearance queue names the declaration rather than the condition. Judging the countersigned statement, and the sign-off that lifts the door refusal, are the centre’s.
- No club or buddy roster. Several places go on one order and the booker answers for each diver, but there is no invitation link that lets a buddy fill in their own medical form.
- No club, school or group rate — the checkout cannot price a place differently because several were bought together.
- No rescheduling a diver onto another course date. A blown-out dive is refunded and rebooked; bindro cannot move a place from one session to another.
- No photo or video delivery to divers after the course.
- No live roster at sea. The door works with the network off, but the copy your crew carries is as fresh as its last sync: a place sold ashore after you cast off is not on it, and it catches up when you are back in coverage.
- No sales tax added at checkout and no tax report — the price a diver sees is the price that is charged.
- No waitlist on a full course. A full course says "Course full" and takes no names.
- No automatic collection of the balance of a plan. You publish the deposit, the number of charges and the interval on the ticket type and the deposit is taken at checkout; bindro never charges the stored card for the rest of it, because it does not bill a card with nobody present. Collect the balance the way you collect anything else.
- No handing a place to another diver. A diver who cannot come is refunded, and the place does not return to sale by itself — raise the session’s capacity by one to resell it.
- A diver’s medical answers are anonymised twelve months after their last course, well inside the seven years the signed waiver record is kept. Keep your own copy if your insurer wants the questionnaire itself years later.
- No dive log, no equipment servicing history, no air-fill or cylinder testing records, no retail till and no rental asset tracking — bindro sells the place, it does not run the shop.
